Posted in Rants and Raves with tags , on July 15, 2009 by Just Zach

It all goes down then.  2.0 launch.  Finally and for real.  I just got called onto my shift a few hours early, so Dan will have to give you the details on the new site… but trust me, it’s cool.

Be on the lookout too, for another written post.  I’m going to announce the details on our first major contest.  What’s at stake to win?  A guest spot in one of our episodes!  And not these ones we shoot on the webcam, no… the high quality stuff.  Yeah.  And pie, as well.  There’s also pie to be had.  But I’ve probably said too much.

So tell your friends.  Tell them to tell thier friends.  Be here on Friday.  You shant be disappointed.

We Dare To Be Stupid

Weird Al.  You know him.  You might love him, you might hate him… but you have to respect him.

He just released his new single “Craigslist” earlier this week, making this his 30th year writing and releasing music.  This sort of  milestone may not be unheard of for more traditional music groups, but remember, Al’s a comedy act.  And as far as musical comedy acts go, that’s the popular lifetimes of maybe seven or eight other groups.  Do you really think we’ll still be hearing from the Lonely Island 30 years from now?

When watching the Watchmen just isn’t enough…

Ever get the feeling like you’re watching a train wreck as it’s happening?

No, I don’t mean the economy. (BA-ZING!)

Of course you do!  This is the information age!  We’ve been watching people do stupid things since… well, long before the information age, honestly.  I mean, they didn’t have America’s Funniest Home Videos during Custer’s time, but I’m sure people watched him dash headlong into a situation that was far beyond his depth and just shook their heads.

Maybe it’s just a cultural thing.  We here in America value the individual and laud the abilities of ourselves.  If you’ve got the drive and the skill to do something, then by god do it- that’s what this country is about.  We stood up for ourselves and took our liberty back from the British!  We tamed the West and stretched our borders from sea to shining sea!  You as an American will not be told you can’t do something… even if you really should.

I’m all for being active in your community, and…well… I’ve wanted to be a Green Lantern since I was 6.  But these guys just blow my mind. Continue reading

Games You Oughta Try: Eternal Darkness

Posted in Rants and Raves with tags on April 27, 2009 by Just Zach

For being the company that more or less brought the gaming industry back from the brink in the late 80’s, Nintendo takes a lot of flak from a fanbase it’s largely responsible for- namely the twenty-thirtysomething hardcore gamer bloc. As the first generation born with and raised on video games grows, so do their tastes, and games like Halo, The Guy Game and Close Range come about due to this demand for more mature fare.  Nintendo has never embraced adult material near to the degree that it’s competition has, which has in turn earned it the label of being a ‘kiddie company’ that ‘only makes childish games’.  While it is true that their systems have and continue to be dominated by the more-often-than-not cute and cuddly franchise characters like Yoshi, Kirby and Pikachu, quite a few notable “M rated” titles have graced Nintendo systems then and now.  From the Perfect Dark of yore to MadWorld today, Nintendo has had an admittedly somewhat limited, but no less present place in the mature market.  One of the best (and most distressingly obscure) examples of this is Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem for the Gamecube.

Oh For The Love of F%$*

Posted in Rants and Raves with tags on April 23, 2009 by Danny Methane

So, today, I’m supposed to bring you a text filled rant or rave about something or other that Zach and I can argue about since it gets us more views.

Well f%$* that s%$*.

It’s nothing to do at all with you guys. I still love you, and depending on how I feel after work tomorrow, I might do an actual article to please you in ways your partner never could. But until then, I give you REASONS for my unexpected hiatus and relying on douchebaggery.

First, I forgot to tell Zach that I wouldn’t be able to do a column today. Entirely my fault for the reasons following this.

Second, Wednesday, I woke up at 11:00AM. I started work at 5:30PM. I did not get home until 5:00AM. Went to sleep at 6:00AM Thursday, woke up at 1:00PM Thursday, work from 3:00PM to 11:00PM Thursday. Today, I have to be up for work at 6:00AM and work from 7:00AM to 4:00PM. So, out of the past 72 hours (this 24 included) I have worked 25 hours. I have slept 23 hours. And spent a total of 24 hours doing things other than work/sleep.

F%$*.

So, again, I’m sorry for the lack of a post tonight. I’ll try and write like a review of a song.

I’ve got it!

Working Man by Rush

We listened to this song tonight while closing the store down. Not only did we get more work done, we had fun while doing it, and had some great music to listen to. Rush is a great band and if you’ve never gotten to listen to them, I feel sorry for you. I chose this song because it fits tonight’s theme perfectly.

I get up at seven, yeah
And I go to work at nine
I got no time for livin
Yes, Im workin all the time

See how that works out?

Enjoy your night,

-Danny Methane
