No video this week! But you love us anyways!

I blame Dan.  (What else is new?)

If it weren’t for him working every day I don’t, we could have a video up for you.  But that’s neither here nor there, really.  He’s my cohost, and I’ll stand by his work right up until I can replace him.  Until then, though, I’ve got a teaser for you.

That’s all you get for the moment.  2.0 goes live in a few weeks.  I just know you’ll enjoy it.

Early Edition: Episode 1 – Left 4 Dead

On the off chance you missed our postings on Facebook or MySpace…

Here, for your viewing pleasure, is our very first episode. Pardon my dropped lines, but I’m new to this acting thing.

Early Edition! Sunday Post 3

Posted in Housekeeping with tags , on February 28, 2009 by Danny Methane

Tomorrow we are shooting an episode, finishing editing the first episode, and we’re kicking ass, all at the same time.

I won’t reveal any spoilers, but I really do think you’ll all like the first episode. I just thought I’d share a little about how we write the episodes.

First, we get a general idea of what we want to talk about. Zach and I usually pick different aspects of one thing, and we each relay our feelings about it. Then, during test runs, we usually improvise the episode, which is where we get most of the jokes (especially the funny ones.)

A little informative, but hey.

And I know my Sunday Post’s are usually worthless and cop-out-ish, but damn it. Zach does one on Friday and Monday, so I can do a long Saturday post (Zomblog anyone?) or a short Sunday post. So far, I’ve chosen the latter.

Finally…

Tomorrow, Zach and I are shooting our FIRST HD Episode. Expect it’s upload in a few weeks. We’ll be sure to let you know exactly when. Zach’s probably going to hate me, cause I’m basically using this as a cop out.

Here, I’ll write about something.

Oh! Sweet. Movie review time!

I’m a big fan of the Askewniverse. I’ve seen every movie, except Jersey Girl, and I hear I’m not missing much.

Recently, I saw Zack and Miri Make a Porno. This movie was absolutely hilarious on every level. I don’t want to ruin anything for anyone, but everyone’s performance in that movie was stellar. Two things stood out in this movie and made me love it even more.

As you may or may not know, I was born in Pittsburgh, where the movie was set. Everything from Steelers Fans to a Pens Game are featured in this movie, and it was a nostalgic experience for me. Not that any of you care.

The other is the hockey team that is breifly featured: The Monroeville Zombies.

A fairly subtle reference, that not many will catch. The original Dawn of the Dead was filmed in the Monroeville Mall, thus, Monroeville Zombies is a reference to Dawn of the Dead, another of my favorite movies of all time.

Another great thing about this movie: They write a Star Wars themed porno. If anyone actually does make such a porn, I will thrust my wallet at them with my left, and thrust my right hand into my pants.

Point in case, if you like good comedies, if you like Kevin Smith as a writer, if you like Seth Rogen as an actor, if you like tits and anal, then you will enjoy this movie.

The Best Advice I Never Took or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Launch the JAN

Posted in Housekeeping with tags on January 31, 2009 by Just Zach

The best advice I ever read about writing blogs came, shockingly enough, from a blog. A gaming blog, to be specific. Wired.com’s Game|Life, to be perfectly specific. The entry concerned a favorite pro-wrestler of mine’s (now defunct) debuing column series on GameTap.com. The line that stuck with me went as follows.

“Sadly, the TNA wrestler falls into the classic rookie trap of making your first column about how awesome your column is going to be.” -Chris Kohler

A wise man learns from his own mistakes, but a smart man learns from the mistakes of others. The best was to look and be a ‘professional’ blogger was to shut the hell up and blog. Thus is why the JAN wasn’t promoted when it was started. Thus is why Dan and I have been writing dry run columns for a month now. I wanted to slowly work into the writing habit, slowly improve the site, and slowly get in the mindset of blogging daily. Well, lord knows that didn’t work, but I think our ‘every other day’ format will work out nicely.

The blog hasn’t supplanted our video series, not by a long shot. As Dan alluded to, we’ve seriously upped the production values on them, and by necessity seriously increased our lead times on them. With professional quality also comes the necessity to do things professionals do, like ‘edit’ and ‘reshoot’. Psh. Wastes of time, if you ask me. At any rate, the videos are going to be spiffy cool and special treats, the blog our meat and potatoes, bread and butter, other food phrase examples of what we normally do. We’ll be finishing our video entry to post as a teaser within a week or two, hopefully a video or two as well.

But you don’t want to know all of that. You want to read shit, not read shit about us writing shit. Take a gander through our archives on the side over there, and consider that our housewarming gift to you. We’ve tried to get the place ready for the party… now we just wait to see if they show.

The System is Down

Good morning every body, and welcome to today’s edition of Just Action News! You might be wondering, “What the hell is this!? I thought you guys did movies, not blogs!?”

Well, you’re wrong. In order to keep our fans happy during our hiatus, we’re doing some blogs to keep things flowing. Right now, Zach and I have agreed to keep to a MWF and Sat or Sun schedule, depending on several things, mainly, what we have to talk about.

We’ve shot the opening to the NEW AND IMPROVED HD JUST ACTION NEWS! Over $40,000 in equipment & $4,000 in production values. We promise we’re doing out best to pump videos out as soon as possible, working on getting you the next video whenever we can.

Meanwhile, we hope you stay with us in this time of need, and in the meantime, we hope you enjoy catching up with all the blogs we’ve back logged.

Bon Voyage, mon petit merde!
